Make money doing the work you believe in

Used to visit this hotel often, attending seminars and conferences as part of my work as a licensed psychotherapist. Place was hopping, hundreds of people milling in the lobby, restaurants were full, people visiting local businesses during the breaks. This was all before the pandemic and the passage of M110. Recently decided to walk from the Lloyd Center to the Convention Center for the Portland Auto Show. My wife and I walked by this hotel and I decided to duck in and use the restroom. It was a ghost town, no one in the lobby, it was somewhat distressing, like the sword of Damocles was hanging over the property, so I am not surprised by its failure. Yet as we walked from the lobby towards the Convention Center, people were hidden in the alcoves of the property smoking and using drugs openly. There were lots of other sketchy people around as well, I quickly rued my decision to place myself and my wife in this danger.

Yet if you have a subset of city councilors (hey, Peacock, looking at you) who are anti business, anti police, and who spend their time dithering on on performative politics (have we banned foie gras yet?) this is what you get.
