It was a long day in clinic yesterday. This morning I woke up thinking about what it is that makes general practice a challenge.
For me, it’s the uneasy feeling that you’re behind on the latest advice.
Clinical guidelines, prescribing protocols, the latest research - it’s changing all the time. Of course it is. It’s one thing to stay up-to-date on shoulder reconstruction procedures if you’re an ortho shoulder specialist, but imagine you have to stay up to date on everything I saw yesterday…
Here’s a what I was expected to know all the latest guidance about just in the first hour:
Childhood obesity
Psoriasis
Diabetes
Sepsis
Urinary incontinence
Hyperthyroidism
Labyrinthitis
Multiply that by 6 and it’s no wonder my stomach is in knots and my brain is fried most days.
And worst of all…I’m not sure there’s a solution to it. 🤔
Suggestions welcome!
