Make money doing the work you believe in

This comment by Esther Quintero (Shanker Institute) was posted on my recent blog about research-free reading routines. What do you think?

“It is this tension between both revering and referring to Share’s writing — and yet ignoring the totality of his writing — that is problematic.”

YES! I could not agree more!

Jay Rosen has argued that news organizations should publicly post values statements instead of performing shallow objectivity through both sidesism. Transparency about having a perspective, is more honest and useful than the pretense of having none.

This made me think that prominent reading researchers such as David Share, Maryanne Wolf, or Mark Seidenberg to name a few, who often get cherry picked, might be well served by each developing their own public statement declaring their non negotiables and core positions. Not rebuttals issued after the fact but something that could do the work preemptively.
