Cannabis use is common, especially among people with metastatic disease. This is an interesting discussion about cannabis use and breast cancer risk, including the potential impact on disease progression.
What stood out to me most was this:
“For patients receiving immunotherapy, the concern is separate. Early clinical data suggests that cannabis use during immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment is associated with worse outcomes, possibly because cannabinoids suppress immune function, working against the very mechanism immunotherapy depends on.” - Tiffany Troso-Sandoval MD
That’s quite concerning and highlights the need for further research. I haven’t reviewed the data in detail yet (it’s on my list), but it raises important questions, particularly around the types of cannabis used in these studies and whether specific components may differentially influence cancer risk or treatment outcomes.
