This really resonates. The distinction between being a strong teacher and a strong mentor is often overlooked, and the point about mentoring conversations staying at the level of “what to do” rather than “why it works” feels especially true. I also think there’s something important here about being clearer on the differences and overlap between coaching and mentoring, and when each is most useful. Without that clarity, conversations can become muddled, leaning too heavily on quick fixes rather than deeper professional thinking. If we want real growth, we need to be intentional about both.
