Make money doing the work you believe in

Happy Easter! (Thankfully the season lasts 40 days, so technically I'm not "late"....)

You may have noticed that things “went dark” here over on Notes, which was an intentional choice for Lent. While I'll be making a few Lenten and early Easter updates in subsequent posts, sharing a few things I thought about while away:

1. Why am I on social media these days? What value does it actually provide? Notes is an interesting place, and I’m still figuring out how to best engage with it.

2. Related to this, the need to pay attention to what you are paying attention to: "What am I letting into my sphere of attention, and is that helping me?".

3. Compute really is becoming a nation-scale substrate. I don't think most are ready for that, by which I mean how we think about access to compute, the future of high-performance computing, why we should care at all, etc. are undergoing change.

4. The rise of "unconventional computing technologies" (quantum, classical, thermodynamic, etc.) will upend traditional notions of HPC. This, along with the rise of neoclouds for providing access to advanced computing technologies, is going to require a rethink of HPC business models, system procurement/deployment, etc.

5. The tools we use shape how we think, so be mindful of how I am using AI. What do I need to practice so that I get better and grow my skills, and what can actually be delegated? What is the role of AI in each? etc.
