This whole attitude of “ I don't need to learn to fix things because that's what editors are for” has got to die. It’s lazy, erroneous, and smacks of entitlement.
The strongest writers are those who have taken the time to learn every aspect of the craft, from plotting to sentence structure to pacing to voice to basic elements of grammar and punctuation.
Take ownership of your work. Learn the things you don't know, and practice the things you do know. It’s not an editor’s job to fill in the holes of your knowledge base.
To be frank, I am not interested in clients who want to hire me to fix their punctuation. As a writer, it is your job to learn the tools of your trade.
