This was a wonderful post about WTB! It's my comfort show as well, as I was a little young for it too when it first aired. It definitely gets knocked as a "light" sitcom from the 80s, but it really was one of the best shows of that era. It was an eight-year slow-burn love story, with the first 4 seasons being incredibly strong both in the writing and acting. Judith Light is a national treasure, and Katherine Helmond was the perfect choice for Mona (originally the "Mona" character was supposed to be Angela's sister, but I'm so glad that idea was scrapped). The entire cast had that natural chemistry that just can't be manufactured.
