Mothers negotiate all the difficult nuances of raising children and they do this with grace, with humor, and often while privately fatigued themselves. He was grieving at this parting moment and she said to him: “Open your palm. Look at it. Wherever you are, do this, and you will see me.” We carry our Mothers inside of us, as surely as they once carried us.
