I lost a $12K client by being too helpful.

Great discovery call. I answered every question, walked them through my whole approach, basically handed them a free mini-strategy.

They said it was "so helpful."

Then they hired someone who charges half my rate.

Took me years to understand: I'd treated a sales call like a job interview. They asked, I answered, they evaluated. I showed up hoping to be chosen.

Nobody pays a premium retainer to someone hoping to be chosen.
