Jeff, this so beautifully captures the agony and ecstasy of backpacking in Grand Canyon. I have said that hiking in the Canyon is a metaphor for life when it gets tough : put your head down, put one foot in front of the other, and keep going. It has shown me time and again that I am stronger than I think I am.
