Given that Mr Gaddis is a Yale professor AND a protege of Lovetts , I think it would be safe to assume that he would be more likely to carry the prevailing view that Forrestal had a breakdown and committed suicide . To a more objective student , the obvious questions to be addressed would be , if Forrestal was that unstable , why was he slated to be discharged that day ? Additionally , his reasons for tying the sash around his neck AND jumping out the window seem redundant , the leap would have been sufficient . I agree with your thesis that Forrestal’s opposition to the formation of the State of Israel , black budgets for the CIA and his willingness to share information on UFO’s with the public are more likely the causes for his untimely demise .
