Poetry brings the reader into the present, whether it was written today or a thousand years ago. You take another human’s words into your mouth; you test them on your tongue; and you enter into an exchange that can only happen now. It’s one way to revolt—for the sake of your sanity—against a world that wants to numb you into apathy.
