So I didn't know it was possible for someone to make my own arguments better than me. You just did. I was deeply embedded in purity culture for most of my young adult life. I've spent the last seven years washing myself clean of that shit. And nothing hurts me more than watching "the good guys" reenact the shit that made me a shell of a person in order to have an enemy on which to project their own darkest shadows. Thanks for all of the book recommendations - they've done nothing good for my library-building habit. But if that's the worst of my sins, I think I've done the world a service. Bravo.
