Poignant and evocative.

It really is a strange time to be an American, in which we have access to enough information now to see clearly how little power we have against this slow-grinding machine of tyranny. It makes one wonder whether there ever was a "great" era of the United States or whether it was merely a few decades long mirage caused by our lucky post-WWII economic circumstances combined with a total lack of understanding by the general public of what was happening in the halls of power in our country.

Now the blindfolds are off for at least the non-red-hat-wearing segment of the population, but our protests lack teeth, the song of money and power remains too strong, and the government and corporate leaders continue to steamroll ahead with their own plans for self-aggrandizement at our collective expense.
