This concept of ‘preparing your no’ is critical, but I’ve found that even a prepared mental ‘no’ can be negotiated with in the moment of weakness. The mind is slippery.
I’m currently field-testing a physical, non-digital system designed to interrupt hesitation in real-time using tactile consequences. No screens, no apps. Just a mechanism that makes avoiding the ‘Hell Yeah’ physically uncomfortable and action the path of least resistance.
It’s essentially a physical ‘no’ that bypasses the mind’s ability to argue. When hesitation rises, the system delivers an immediate tactile interrupt, enforcing the decision before the brain can talk its way out of it.
Since I’m iterating on the design: For those trying to live simply, does the idea of a physical enforcement mechanism (tactile friction) resonate more than a mental rule? Curious if others find that the body needs a stronger signal than the mind to stick to ‘Hell Yeah or No.
