Make money doing the work you believe in
Erika, a lovely piece and “home” an important question to ponder. Over the last 20 years, I’ve lived (simultaneously) in multiple places: NYC, Miami, Northampton (MA), and Paris with (and because of) my partner of 32 years (a diplomat). If you can’t be in the place you love (most), then you love the place you’re in. Shockingly (to most people) I didn’t love Paris immediately. But then I realized I always had a foot out the door when I visited. Relationships with people don’t work unless you commit, and as I learn from my time in Paris, that also applies to your relationship to a place. I get to love a place through its people, so I connect—with neighbors, fellow dog owners, shop keepers. I also need to settle in and allow myself to truly be there. As the old song goes, anywhere I hang my hat is home!
