The cotton industry alone and its relationship with Europe, particularly the U.K., would have sustained the CSA and ensured its survival for decades and with it greatly delayed the abolition of slavery in the South.

Highly recommend “Been There, Done That” by Greg Jackson, published 6/16/26, intended to put our current partisanship into perspective and tout the ongoing strength and endurance of our Constitutional Republic. Multiple historical scenarios are included but most poignantly the politics and economics of secession and Reconstruction.

Our democracy, IMHO, will survive our current stresses.
