Make money doing the work you believe in

I was knocked on my feet this month too by health problems. My autoimmune diseases cause physical symptoms but flares also serve as springboards into spiritual desolation, a feeling of being exiled from the simple goodness of Creation & God. That interior suffering, also coupled for me with insomnia, is the heavier cross. Suffering is indeed easy, and even joyful, when the heart feels itself motivated by love and retains its peace by confidence in God. But in desolation, St. Ignatius says you feel without love and without hope — so what suffering well looks like in desolation must be something other than what it looks like in consolation, when you clearly sense love and hope. There must be some aspect to this that means you’re walking the path without any of the fruits of the Spirit to reassure you. Pure abandonment in the dark is all that is left. I plan to talk to Father about this next time I see him for direction.
