The recruitment of VCs has long been a governance free zone, and with few exceptions Aussie universities are not well served in this regard. Having watched from within and outside with great interest, executive recruitment firms are not the story here, but either way, don’t expect anything to change because political parties support the status quo rather than change. In the 15 or so years I was in a senior exec role in the university system I reckon I could name barely a handful of VCs who were worth the salaries they were paid, but then I guess people can say that about so many other industries.
