“Leaning into hopefulness”- I’m going to pop that on a post-it note and stick it where I can see it every day. I love this. I didn’t watch the entire funeral but I’ve seen parts of it. Maire’s poem just about destroyed me and I immediately went looking for places I could find her work. I then thought of Ethan Hawke’s words - about how no one thinks about poetry until they need the right words, and it made me, fledgling poet that I am, a little proud to be dedicating my life to language (even if it’s a struggle some days and I can’t quite get the pieces to fit and I’m banging my head against a desk) - language is the worthiest pursuit I know, as a human on this planet during this time in history. And I’m going to lean into that. x
