This is a well-written article and many of your arguments are solid. Pastoral societies are frequently not great for women, either. However, I think the issue was the wording of your tweet. I doubt that you would post a tweet saying something like, “Appalachians are a scourge on the republic.” Your language in the tweet was inflammatory at a time of widespread harassment and politically-motivated slander of immigrant and refugee groups that has already had real consequence for blameless individuals. If I were you, I would just apologize and move on!
