If they died tomorrow then I think a state funeral would be appropriate for Anne, William and Catherine. I think it depends on how well regarded and beloved the person is by the people. They didn’t plan on giving Diana a state funeral but the public demanded it. The Queen Mother’s proposed funeral plans were hastily brought out and modified for it. I’m sure there are categories of state funerals from magnificent to basic to allay the worry about costs. Funerals, like weddings, are still good PR for Britain and still economic winners with memorabilia, hotels, increased visitors etc These royal events raise the profile of the UK worldwide and are a break from the unremitting gloom and doom of everyday life.

I am not advocating for state funerals, however, for Andrew, Harry or Meghan!
