I'm curious if you've come across any research showing that the three fat soluble vitamins A, D, and K help boost immunity to viruses? The reason I ask is because I have been sickly my entire life. Starting in my 20s, I would get UTI's every other month, averaging 5 or so a year. I went on countless rounds of antibiotics, had my urine cultured, had an MRI to see if I had any abnormality or kidney stones (I didn't). At one point, I was put on a continuous does of antibiotic (Macrobid) for 2 years to keep the infections at bay.

I would also get influenza two or three times a year, plus several colds that would progress into sinus infections, bronchitis, or pneumonia. If I estimate correctly, I've been on over 120 rounds of antibiotics. Then I developed gastritis, chronic migraines, and finally prediabetes.

To reverse the prediabetes, I began intermittent fasting in earnest and my migraines and gastritis began to subside. I lost 45 lbs and got my A1c down to 5.0 (fasting insulin is now 3.9). However, I was still getting sick quite often.

Then I decided to read Weston Price's book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration published in 1939. I had heard so much about him but I wanted to go straight to the source. His book astounded me in its careful scientific research and case studies. I began filling my diet with everything he recommended: eating beef liver (i enjoy it), taking cod liver oil with butter oil, eating more full-fat dairy (I get local grass fed raw goat milk), and eating local free range eggs. My recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. This has been the first winter in my entire life that I did not have a cold, flu, UTI, or any illness. I know that might not sound astounding to the average person, but it is for me compared to what I used to deal with. I haven't had a UTI in 18 months (a record for me).

For 27 years, I traveled from doctor to doctor asking them what's wrong with my immune system. Not one of them mentioned vitamins. Is it possible I was simply depleted in the fat-soluble vitamins my immune system needed? After this newfound immunity to illness, I started finding extensive research that I compounded into this post on cod liver oil: fastwell.substack.com/p…. I also increased my vitamin D level from 22 to 69 without taking a single vitamin D supplement but just eating the above foods.

I got a lot of the info from the post from Chris Masterjohn who's here on Substack and writes Harnessing the Power of Nutrients. He did his post doctoral research on vitamins A, D, and K. The food pyramid and most of mainstream nutrition advice is calculated to make us deficient in these vitamins since they need to be obtained from fat and are not easily assimilated in pill form (especially A). And those three work together so people can't just supplement D or even D plus K2 but need all three together. And beta carotene from vegetables is not easily converted to A by the body.
