Tolstoy shows that we do have moments of great realisation, and reality is constantly altering our understanding of the world and ourselves. But no one changes completely in the space of a chapter. And reading chapter-a-day accentuates this realism. We see the characters change in the same way we see ourselves change, over weeks and months, or years and a lifetime.
