Just a short note this week, dear readers, as first, I’m having a wee holiday, and second, I’m overwhelmed by all the things to reflect upon and comment on, including:

1. the trans-identified male who has left as CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis following investigation findings against him (good news);

2. the debate around the proposed ban of social media for under 14s in Oz (mixed news);

3. Oz far right politician Pauline Hanson’s decision to propose her own reforms to the Sex Discrimination Act (bad news for all of what I hope are obvious reasons);

4. (simultaneously comic and tragic news) the Trump circus: while we are all having a good time laughing at memes and satirical videos about pets in Springfield, Ohio, the residents and temporary Haitian protectees there are having a very grim time (shades of Rotherham, UK, a few weeks ago), and then there’s this:

5. (really, really bad news - see link below) male violence against women is never far from the forefront of the news and thus of my thoughts. And if anyone is thinking ‘oh it’s only in those countries, this never happens here’, I have a name, a place and a date for you: Hannah Clarke, Brisbane, 2020.
