Chatbots can do more than just chat.

Intercom released the second version of its chatbot Fin, last week. The new version comes with four new capabilities that were announced as part of its launch: 

  1. Knowledge - it learns faster and provides answers more accurately than before

  2. Behavior - Fin is fluent in 45 languages and can follow internal guidelines and policies to speak in your company’s tone of voice

  3. Actions - it can take actions on your user’s behalf

  4. Insights - it provides insights about its own performance so that you can take steps to improve the quality of its output

There are plenty of impressive features here but the one that sticks out the most to me at least is the Actions ability.

Not only can the bot answer questions effectively but it can integrate with third party APIs (in this case Stripe) to do things like updating customer records or adjusting their address details. This takes chatbots beyond conventional knowledge bases and into the realm of AI agents that can perform actions on behalf of users.
