FASCISM AND WHITE SUPREMACY

When Trump became president, all the skinheads, the ‘Proud Boys’, the KKK and every paramilitary white supremacist group, Neo-Nazis Nut-jobs  came crawling out of the woodwork because they knew that Trump didn’t give a rat’s ass. In fact, he defended them. One skinhead kid drove his car full speed into a peaceful rally and killed a young girl. Response: There were bad people on both sides. If somehow Trump gets elected, magnify fascism by at least ten.

KKK AND WHITE SUPREMACY AND THE REIGN OF TERROR, PUBLIC LYNCHINGS AND SEGREGATION.

At the end of the American Civil War, slavery was abolished with the 13th Amendment in 1865. In the same year (1865, that’s a coincidence Colin isn’t it?) the Ku Klux Klan was formed by confederate soldiers and the reign of terror and segregation began.  The KKK was the name for several historical and current American white supremacist far-right terrorist organizations

When Colin, prithee tell, when were African Americans allowed to vote? Well, unbelievably it only took a 100 years and yes I’m being sarcastic because I am very angry. On August 6, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voters Rights Act into law breaking down legal barriers at state (Alabama, Mississippi, take your pick) and local levels that had prevented African- Americans and ‘others’from exercising their rights to vote. And Colin, my dear boy, may I assume there was a lot of intimidation at the polls. You bet your sweet bippy. It’s still at the back of the bus.  So here’s the problem. When someone tells me that the Civil War was fought only for the abolition of slavery, my bullshit antennas vibrate.

‘Throw us in jail and we shall still love you. Bomb our homes and threaten our children and we shall still love you. Send your hooded perpetrators of violence at the midnight hour and beat us and leave us half dead and we shall still love you. One day we shall win freedom, but not only for ourselves. We shall so appeal to your heart and your conscience that we shall also win you in the process, and our victory will be a double victory.’ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

TONI MORRISON

AFRICAN-AMERICAN

‘American 'means white and Africanist people struggle to make the term applicable to themselves with ethnicity and hyphen after hyphen after hyphen. Racism will disappear when it is no longer profitable, and no longer psychologically useful. And when that happens it will be gone. But at the moment, people make a lot of money off of it.’ Toni Morrison

BETWEEN THE WORLD AND ME: TA-NEHISI COATES

‘Americans have built an empire on the idea of ‘race’, a falsehood that damages us but falls most heavily on the bodies of black women and black men- bodies exploited through slavery and segregation and today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of proportion. What is it like to inhabit a black body and find a way to live in it? How can we honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden?  Ta-Nehisi Coates from Between the World and Me                                                           Coates chooses to raise his son in France
