Since the APA changed their ethics to focus on the mental health practitioner as an agent of social change, worldview and the ideological structures that support it, are all the more relevant for criticism and evaluation. As with so many areas of research, it’s difficult if not impossible for the average citizen to gain enough of an understanding to evaluate critically what the “expert” therapist is telling them. This is where I see offering alternatives, both in practice and in ideology, is important. I’ve had numerous patients/clients connect from terrible fragility-enhancing and identitarian judgment therapy experiences.
