This is really interesting and thank you to both parties for bringing this subject up.
What we consider to be a Constitutional Republic in this “advanced civilized technological paradise” - seems as confusing to Americans as it does to any other people - and to any governmental agency or nation state - in this world.
As an American I feel fortunate to have what the founding ancestors of these United States - sketched out with the poetic and mercurial help of Thomas Jefferson - and those of that erstwhile British immigrant -Thomas Paine.
The essential thread I see to all of these concerns is that Paine did not regard these brilliant perceptions as in any way exclusively “American” - Paine saw these as a reflection of what is in each and every human heart and mind.
I believe the founding ancestors believed this also.
There is something at work here which runs much deeper.
And i believe the thread which unites us all - lies precisely there.
We have the words - we have the true foundations - now we have something to build upon.
