I agree that the best thing Carney can do is to show himself to be a serious person focused on serious issues. The more he does so, the more he will force Poilievre to follow suit or risk looking 2nd tier in comparison.

With respect to transgender issues, this would entail affirming that women's hard-fought rights will not be eroded (meaning trans women have no place in women's spaces or sports), while at the same time, affirming that transgender people have the right to make personal choices, a…

You are onto something but not in the shape you present. I am all for provincially selected projects, but one should insist that the projects aim at strengthening the federation. Let the provinces wear the mantle of Canada, and let Ottawa be the facilitator, rather than the director.

I think the national railways was built this way, by the way. The provinces asking for it and Canada being created (amongst other reasons) to make that multi provincial project possible.

Exactly right. This is what the Americans voted for. Now, most of the people that voted for Trump are too uninformed to understand what they voted for, but they voted for it nonetheless.

Therefore, any Canadian who now says “but maybe we should just fix the border” is insulting our intelligence (or worse). Anybody saying “we should negotiate” is insulting our intelligence as well. Why would anybody negotiate with somebody who violates the agreement he negotiated himself?

The US is accelerating to…

I would like to offer a different view. I believe Byrne’s attack on O’Toole was a deliberate decision and probably in the current climate a smart move that will solidify Poilievre’s chances.

Byrne and Poilievre have the same philosophy: there are no political opponents, there are only political enemies. The number one political objective must always be the destruction of the opponent first. Being gracious to another a politician at retirement is not possible in the Poilievre / Byrne philosophy. …

Jesus Evan, if I wanted to read the National Post, I'd get a subscription.

With this article and your last one, praising Bonnie Crombie who has "underperformed" I may start reading Andrew Coyne for accuracy.

Oh come on Evan, USA voted in a felon and the Hunter case was iffy, but it’s not ok for Hunter? We have Pierre who won’t take a background check, we have conservatives seriously breaking and robbing us. Hunter would be in danger with Trump in power. With all the scandals against the law with conservatives and republicans, and you’re upset on one man who they aren’t even sure had a fair trial?

And on this, Sir, I applaud you fully!

I recall that "Because it's 2015" moment and immediately saying that he (the Face Painter) had just admitted that he had at least SOME unqualified women. I am certainly glad that someone else saw his comment that way.

The thing is, I couldn't care less about someone's gender, color, orientation, yada, yada, yada. Just make sure that they are competent, honest, have some reasonable modicum of experience in the particular position, and are reasonably congruent…

Very preliminary thoughts on the US election and my vocation of politics

So, it turns out that my new-ish coworker voted for Trump, and ever curious, I kept asking gentle questions as to WHY THE FUCK SHE WOULD DO THAT and yes, she said "I was better off four years ago". She is not plugged in, she does not read. She watches YouTube videos all day at work. Shas one daughter in college and another in high school…
