Skip America. I did not enjoy it, and I have never spoken to anyone that has gotten anything from it. Simulacra and Simulation has great concepts, but you will face the same writing style issues as in Gulf War. He is writing in the style of what he is describing, if that makes sense. He is being difficult on purpose, I believe, to kind of demonstrate those layers of simulation and breakdown of meaning in hyperreality in his writing style. Whether or not he succeeds in doing that is really in the eye of the reader. His earlier works, such as The Consumer Society and Symbolic Exchange and Death, are much more academic in their writing style, making them comparatively accessible.
