WH announces new actions against antisemitism

The White House this morning announced a series of actions to address the alarming rise of reported antisemitic incidents at schools and on college campuses since the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.

The Department of Homeland Security agency responsible for cybersecurity and infrastructure protection has instructed hundreds of advisors to work with schools to figure out their specific needs.

Additionally, the Education Department fast-tracked its update of the intake process for discrimination complaints to specifically state that certain forms of antisemitism and Islamophobia are prohibited under Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The Department will also hold webinars for school communities to ensure that students facing discrimination at schools and campuses have the information they need to file a complaint.

This afternoon, Second Gentleman DOUG EMHOFF and Education Secretary MIGUEL CARDONA will meet with Jewish leaders to discuss the issue. And later this week, Secretary Cardona and White House Domestic Policy Advisor NEERA TANDEN will attend a site visit and hold a roundtable with Jewish students at a university.

The new actions come ahead of a House vote this week to condemn antisemitism that is expected to pass with overwhelming bipartisan support.
