The BLM riots were a mild compared to past events of that type. The race-related riots of previous creedal passion periods (CPP) were much larger. The body count from the start of BLM is about 25, by my count. Peter Turchin’s USPV database shows 222 over 1963-70, 527 over 1915-20, 1634 over 1866-77, 436 over 1829-42, and 173 over 1738-41.

As for the violence in the article this falls into a different category with a different mechanism unrelated to the CPP. This mechanism is described in the second link, but the link with violence is not stressed. I am thinking of doing another post on this issue to clarify, because your question is well-poised.
