What a magnificent piece. Just saw the BSO rehearsal this past Saturday at Tanglewood and Andris was fantastic. There is such musical respect between he and the entire orchestra. Been reading all the article about the firing (yes that's what it was) of Andris. Interesting that all articles from the NYT have agreed with his removal, when there isn't single poll that doesn't have the BSO ranked above the NYP. Likewise bring in experienced people from LA to show them how it's done when the BSO and LAP are neck and neck in all the polls.

This drop in attendance and revenue is not a musical problem but a managerial problem. The "Pops" is included in this umbrella of revenue loss. Attended a "Pops" holiday program this past December. Paid $200 a ticket to sit at a crammed table 1/3 of the way back. The program was fabulous and uplifting complete with everything you could possible want in a holiday program. At the intermission and turn around and see the hall is only half full. I don't hear any talk of terminating Lockhart's contract. Management has to better control the amount of concerts and give more incentives for people to attend. The Boston Ballet sends out 40% discount emails to fill empty seats. The board, particularly Hofstedler and Smith need to look in a mirror and make more relevant decisions concerning the business of running the symphony.
