Notes

I want to share the stamp that inspired it, but I also like the idea of just giving the word picture in poem form.

For 39 Cents in Canada

//

Peaceful enough, the evening lay:

pale, plated moon painting

midnight ink like liquid silver.

The sails stood strong, stretched,

though there was little

wind to push onward.

Still and serene, the ship

barely swayed, and the

sailors drifted, thinking of

the way the sun had slipped

like a red button into the

blue back pocket of the sea.

While dreams colored in scales

and white-capped mountains,

they were wrapped slow

by long arms through thenight;

a monster’s loving embrace

in a watery grave.
