That’s a shitty thing to do no matter why. I have been battling someone for years who was doing that to me. It’s just wrong.

I once used an alias on Fox; Donald Trump, before they removed the name. So I would post stuff sometimes remotely sounding like Trump. A few times I found gullible responses asking if I was really Trump. My response was that I was and would they please make a donation to my commettee to save Mar-a-Lago. Funny. But fox removed it.
