Great read from Ethan Iverson on Slugs, the East Village dive that featured everyone from Sun Ra & Albert Ayler to Jackie McLean & Elvin Jones and kept the flame alive in the late 60s/early 70s between the hard bop and Loft eras. No one writes better about this music.
