This is a throwback to a simpler time, a time where you could talk at a camera for thirty minutes and throw it up to Youtube with nary an edit and where vulnerability and confession ruled the day. Let's return to 2016 with an Old School Ramble, Beauties!

In a world that constantly reminds you of all the ways you’ll never measure up, choosing self-love is a radical act. You are worthy of love right now, just as you are. Don’t waste another moment pretending you’re anything less than amazing. jessihuntenburg.substac…

People with a video first audience will bring a video first audience.

People with an audio first audience bring an audio first audience.

Neither of those are a written word first audience. If you are a writer, looking for readers, there are very few platform options for you.

If Substack focuses on those audiences, they will drown out the reading first audiences because reading first audiences are skittish and don’t like loud noises. They are also quiet, unlike video first people who tend to be …

I’m not sure if this is something we do on Substack, but Willow Smith’s new single is SO GOOD 🌿

Learning how to share your writing comes down to two things:

  • Communication

  • Trust

Things that are deeply human. Not hashtags, or viral videos, or AI-generated content, or whatever seems to be the flavor of the day. Instead, just show up frequently, communicate in a manner that connects with authenticity, and appreciate those around you.

The sky is so much better than my phone 🌞

Maybe what your heart wants to share is exactly what people need to hear. Being honest, vulnerable, and clear beats “effective strategy” any day.

Not everything needs a plan. Connecting with people and making them feel seen and valued is enough.

If you could curate a “True Self” Playlist, what are some hypothetical songs you’d include? Here are some of mine:

  1. “My Mind is a Maximalist Bulletin Board”

  2. “Long Walk in the Cemetery Arboretum”

  3. “Introverted: An Anthem”

  4. “I Like What I Like and I’m Not Sorry”

I’m dying to know what you come up with—let me know in the comments!

I’m tired of trying to be my best self.

How about my simplest self? My most authentic self? My most loved and loving and lovable self?

My best self is some twisted ideal I’ll never live up to. My true self is the beautiful flawed creature I am right now, and guess what?

She’s enough <3

jessihuntenburg.substac… There’s no “quick-fix” to rigidify the quagmire it feels like we’re sinking into, but if we keep seeing ourselves as nature’s mistake, we’ll never be able to feel our way into harmony with her. In fact, it’s only when we fully accept ourselves as an extension of her that we’ll be able to repair the harm we’ve perpetuated.
