An Indonesian student in Sydney, Australia, was reported to the police by a lawyer after he posted a TikTok video criticizing his home province of Lampung, in Sumatra, highlighting the lack of infrastructure development and progress.

The video, which was posted last week, gained millions of views and was widely seen by people in Lampung. Shortly after it went viral, the Lampung-based lawyer filed a police report against the Macquarie University student for spreading disinformation.

While he clapped back by posting another video talking about the existence of a protection visa for asylum seekers, he admitted that he has yet to apply for the visa.

He said that he has every reason to remain in Australia, apply for permanent residency, and even eventually a change of nationality, having lost all hopes of progress and personal safety if he remains an Indonesian national.

He is currently in Australia on a student visa, waiting on university applications, having just completed a diploma program at Macquarie.
