Republicans blocked a Democratic effort today to move legislation in the US Senate that would abolish Donald Trump's $1.8 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund" and nullify a settlement freeing Trump and his family from any ongoing tax enforcement. 

"The only way we're going to ensure they never see the light of day is to ban them permanently by law," Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in remarks on the Senate floor. Schumer asked the Senate for "unanimous consent" to pass the bill (meaning without a vote), but Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) objected, thus ending all discussion and movement. 

Despite making public claims that the fund won't proceed to make distributions, the Trump Justice Department has refused to rescind the memo announcing its creation after fighting a lawsuit to block the fund, and a judge has temporarily blocked the DoJ from implementing the program, which was created to pay Jan. 6 rioters and other Trump loyalists.
