2023 Cleveland Browns Outlook (5/22)
The Browns’ passing game will be challenging to evaluate early in the summer. Deshaun Watson has a high resume in all areas, but he wasn’t sharp over his six games last year. With a full training camp and improved receiving weapons, Cleveland will throw the ball much better this season.
Amari Cooper gives him a proven veteran, and the addition of Elijah Moore and Cedric Tillman have the talent to merge as their top WR2 option for different reasons. This quandary could lead to fewer chances for Donovan Peoples-Jones and minimal opportunities for David Bell.
On the flip side, the Browns could create more targets for all receiving options by attempting more passes. I set the Browns’ pass attempts at 33 per game.
Nick Chubb remains a beast, and his handcuff should see fewer touches in 2023.
Watson will give his tight ends plenty of chances, but will Moore and Tillman command more looks at the expense of David Njoku and Harrison Bryant?
In the end, Cleveland’s projections in late May should be a lot different than in early September. Meaning, training camp news will dictate the preseason winners and potential losers.
