What a helpful article. Food Lion is a nice alternative to Ingles, and they contribute food to Sharing House, which Ingles refuses to do. And Aldi stocks great merchandise at much lower prices. Much as I've appreciated Ingles' availability of some exotic items, I think I'm interested in making a small economic impact against them holding so many large properties in our small town; if others feel that way, it could become a large economic impact.
I sense there is a concerted effort to remake Brevard into a modern euro-village with walking, biking and electric cars only allowed and no ugly old buildings. Housing for service industry employees will be small; studios or single bedroom abodes with communal areas in euro styled complexes. As for what’s proposed for the College Station plaza? I get the vibe it’s going to be a health & wellness space. We shall see won’t we?
It is becoming increasingly apparent to me that the NCDOT, Transylvania Co and Brevard have a bad relationship going on. I've never seen a traffic circle for 3 roads, The pavement for US 64 in front of Ingles is in deplorable condition. They build a bridge for no apparent reason over the Davidson River. Teacher salaries are the result of the market. Teaching degrees are a dime a dozen, so the market and salary for jobs reflects that. Not too many brain surgeons out there, so the market also reflects that and they’re paid commensurately for their rare skills.
Of course, excellent teachers are rare, so they should obviously be paid more. Why doesn’t that happen? Because of their fellow teachers! Good luck getting the teacher’s unions to pay excellent teachers more than mediocre teachers. The teac…
