When Glenn Greenwald did his pivot around 2021, the HBGary story from 2011 was in the back of my mind. My hazy recollection is that the HBGary people talked about discrediting people and/or co-opting them. Perhaps this was a case of radical centrists effectively trying to discredit left figures and then effectively pushing the ones who were not really that deeply committed towards the right. Being denounced and canceled was difficult but you'll notice I didn't really turn on the Democrats until they rolled over on the speech issue. After that I began to see they never had principles about anything, apart from preventing Republicans from taking office - and I was even fine with that, until they became noticeably worse than Rs on whole ranges of issues.

Aah matt you don’t have to be republican or democrat. You are a journalist and as you have said in the past being unbiased is important. I do know that that being pro trump is a lot more profitable than being objective.

You’d hope Matt still feels that way, but getting harder to tell. Anyways, looking forward to his take about colleges taking away student visas because of their political beliefs. Surely any free speech advocate is going to immediately condemn it…right?…right?
