I was briefly on a writing site that I hadn't realized was very largely inhabited by Messianic Jews i.e. Christians, and the attempts at "befriending" in comments threads quickly turned very nasty if one wasn't the persuadable sort. A couple who participated there spent lots of time in Israel as sneaky (only appropriate word) proselytizers and their techniques as described were mighty distasteful.

CS Lewis, it seems to me, was one of those highly-neurotic intellectuals who used an awful lot of words making an irrationality palatable to his temperament. It was his drug of choice and he pushed it as hard as he could.
