And every ounce of that lithium extracted, and every ton of rock that needs to be dug out to get to it, needs diesel. And every ton moved in huge trucks needs diesel. And every ton processed to get the lithium out of it needs diesel. And every one of those excavators and huge trucks are even made of steel and oils and plastics made with fossil fuels.
So when people talk about transitioning to renewables, remember that hole in the ground and tell me what we’ll dig it with if the accessible fossil fuels are gone.
