Raises some fair points, but as pushback:

  • there’s a broader lit documenting the same pessimism bias, including on stuff we can measure pretty objectively. Seems implausible that only here is the effect illusory.

  • The low share agreeing that we treat Hispanics, Gay people, and African Americans better today despite it being obvious to Scott it’s true can be interpreted as more evidence of a pessimism bias
