There’s a place in life for people who care more about hypothetical harms to whales than deploying offshore wind or protecting tortoises and “arid landscapes” from solar panels. But when those people also oppose geothermal drilling and also oppose nuclear power, then they are clearly fundamentally unserious about finding an economically tractable way to limit climate change. Elected officials should tune them out, and we should encourage donors who care about climate change to redirect their funds in more pragmatic directions.
