Scientism and the sciencist

I started using the term 'sciencist' ten years ago or so because there doesn't seem to be any other word for people who have an overblown belief in the value of science. We have a name for the phenomenon – scientism – but no word for the people who indulge in it. The word scientist is so well-established as a practitioner of science that we cannot say 'scientists claim [scientistic X]' without offending all the scientists who have a more realistic view of what science can tell us.

That seems to me to be a significant problem because, like many people, I believe scientism has insidiously corrupted humankind's understanding of the world. But it’s very hard to fight it if we can't talk about the people responsible.
