It Is Time for the Legislature’s Fiscal Posturing to Match Reality - By Cutting Spending. By Fred Birnbaum (IDAHO FREEDOM FOUNDATION, 07/16/24).
It’s not enough that Joint Finance Appropriation Committee (JFAC) has split budgeting into needs and wants; the budgets must be cut!
The author explains that Idaho’s budget is “balanced” on the back of federal funding — to the tune of 37% of a budget that has increased 55% between 2020 and 2025.
He concludes “If Idaho is ever to be in a position to reject federal bullying in education and health care policy, it must first position the state government as less dependent on federal funds. This requires a smaller government overall.”
